Mr. Jon Bennett joined SES Government Solutions (SES GS) in October 2018 and serves as the Vice President for Government Affairs, Marketing and Corporate Communications. Mr. Bennett has over 15 years’ experience in the Government Affairs arena, to include time as a congressional staffer, a civilian within the Department of Defense (DOD), and working within the walls of industry. Mr. Bennett handles all strategic Hill engagements and communications, with a focus on congressional issues that directly impact the mission by creating visibility, strengthening resource levels, and further developing congressional relationships. In doing so, Mr. Bennett develops and implements legislative strategies by building internal consensus and representing equities before U.S. government stakeholders.
In his current role with SES GS, Mr. Bennett leads all policy, legislative and appropriation initiatives that impact the SES GS mission. His main function is to advance corporate perspective to refine acquisition procedures, secure/protect funding and create strategic opportunities for SES GS by leading efforts to lobby, influence and educate Congressional Members, DoD Seniors and their staff on satellite communication acquisition, deployment and access to commercial satellite communication services for the U.S. government.
During his time with the Department of Defense, and prior to SES GS, Mr. Bennett worked for the Defense Security Service (DSS) Office of Public and Legislative Affairs as the Senior Advisor for Legislative Affairs. DSS oversees, through the application of counterintelligence and security integration, the protection of U.S. and foreign classified information and critical technologies in the hands of industry. While at the Pentagon, Mr. Bennett also worked for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs, where he served on the Congressional Outreach, Research and Development Team. In this position, Mr. Bennett coordinated congressional requests and Member interests with a primary focus in the areas of Policy; Acquisitions, Technology and Logistics; and Intergovernmental Affairs/Homeland Security portfolios.
While on Capitol Hill, Mr. Bennett served as both a Policy Assistant for the Office of the House Majority Whip, Roy Blunt (R-MO-7th) and a Military Legislative Aid to Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA-9th). During his Hill days, Mr. Bennett handled legislative issues and advised the Congressmen in the areas of National Security, Defense, Intelligence, and International Relations.
Mr. Bennett grew up in Washington, D.C. proper and is a proud Washingtonian. Prior to starting his career in Government Affairs, with a focus on national security interests, Mr. Bennett conducted his undergraduate work at Ithaca College, and his graduate work at the National Defense University.
