Dr. Kyohei Iwamoto, Project Director of Space Laser Communication

Kyohei Iwamoto is project director of space laser communication at Sony Computer Science Laboratories and senior researcher at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. His current space mission called SOLISS, launched September 2019 as a joint research project of JAXA and Sony CSL, is utilizing International Space Station for quick demonstration of laser communication system which introduced optical disc technologies and its basic research was started from June 2016 and awarded Prime Minister Prize of Space Technology Development and Utilization in 2020.

His research interest in space laser communication system and optics. Prior to lead this project, he was a distinguished researcher at Sony and a visiting researcher at Palo Alto Research Center. He received his PhD, master and bachelor degree in engineering in 2003, 2000 and 1998 respectively, all from Osaka University, Japan.
